The Government of India has strengthened its pharmaceutical traceability requirements through the\u00a0June 2026\u00a0Schedule H2\u00a0<\/a>amendment<\/strong>. The regulation expands Schedule H2 beyond the top 300 brands to include\u00a0all vaccines, antimicrobials, anti-cancer drugs, and narcotic\/psychotropic substances<\/strong>, with phased implementation through\u00a0July 2027<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0July 2028<\/strong>.<\/p>

Manufacturers must print or affix a barcode or QR code on the primary packaging of applicable medicines, or on the secondary packaging where primary packaging cannot accommodate it. Each QR code must contain the mandatory data elements notified under Schedule H2, including the Unique Product Identification Code, drug name, manufacturer details, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, manufacturing licence number, and excipient information.
